Dane Starbuck was raised in Winchester, Indiana, in the 1960s and 1970s and returned to Winchester to practice law in 1993 after being gone for 18 years. He had previously worked as a legislative assistant to former U.S. Senator Dan Coats on the U.S. Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee and clerked for U.S. federal district court judge William C. Lee in Indiana’s U.S. Northern District.
In 1999, Dane married his wife Bev Welke and relocated to Carmel, Indiana, where he became president and CEO of the Wishard Memorial Foundation, Inc. for six years before returning to the practice of law in 2005. Dane still has some clients in the Randolph County area in addition to clients from other Central and East Central Indiana communities. He has practiced primarily in the areas of estates and trusts, business law, real estate, and family law.
Dane holds an undergraduate degree from Huntington College and master degrees in English language and literature from Indiana University and the University of Melbourne, Australia, where he studied on a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Fellowship. He also earned a B.A. and M.A. in jurisprudence from Oxford University and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center where he was an associate editor of the Georgetown Law Journal.
Over the years, Dane has held several leadership positions with local organizations, serving as president of the Randolph County Bar Association, Art Association of Randolph County, The Winchester Rotary Club, and a trustee of Huntington College and president of the Huntington College Alumni Association. He is currently a trustee of The Winchester Foundation and a director of Liberty Fund, Inc.
Dane and his wife Bev have three children and eight grandchildren. He enjoys writing, being the author of four books and numerous articles published in Midwest newspapers and magazines.
