Lexey Marvin – Legal Assistant, Muncie

What do you enjoy most about working at DeFur Voran, and what sets it apart from others? – I have worked at DeFur Voran for over a year now. Since I have been a part of this team, DeFur Voran has grown their client base and employee body. With this great growth, DeFur Voran does not shy from making sure their employees are well taken care of. This care ranges from monthly lunch-ins, personal-level relationships, and attorneys who take pride in their legal assistants. This is only a glimpse into the atmosphere at DeFur Voran, and what sets us apart from all other firms.

What initially attracted you to work at DeFur Voran? – A big factor that attracted me to my role at DeFur Voran was the staff. I had met Beth Bell and Jim Williams at my previous employment. They were always full of kindness and good laughs. When I had the opportunity to join this team, I was welcomed with nothing short of goodwill. This is very important to me, for I believe that the more respect with which employees are treated, the greater impact a company can have on its community. Through DeFur Voran, I have connected more with Habitat for Humanity, A Better Way Services, Inc., and Yorktown Community.

What values do you think are most important for success in the legal industry? – There are an abundance of values one should have to be successful in the legal industry. Here are a few values I see practiced daily at DeFur Voran: patience, compassion, and motivation. The attorneys I work with influence me to put these values to work daily with each other and clients.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your colleagues might not know? – A fun fact about me is that I enjoy plant and vegetable gardening. I have had a vegetable garden for the past 12 years. Through gardening I have created life-long relationships and endless learning.

Chrisella Parrish – Legal Assistant, Fishers

What do you enjoy most about working at DeFur Voran, and what sets it apart from others? – What I enjoy most is the peaceful environment and friendly attorneys/staff. The attorneys and staff are a very wonderful, caring and understanding group of people. What sets DeFur apart is that when I was faced with some life challenges a while ago, I will forever be grateful to certain attorneys/staff at DeFur that were there for me every step of the way in helping me to navigate this particular journey.

What initially attracted you to work at DeFur Voran? – The location as I don’t like having to drive on the busy freeways and being a mid-size law firm.

How would you describe the company culture at DeFur Voran? – Very versatile, helpful co-workers, and mutual respect amongst each other.

What do you enjoy most about your role here? – That my attorneys are pleased with my work.

Can you share a memorable experience or achievement during your time at DeFur Voran?  – My most memorable experience was getting through the CLIO training as initially I thought it was very, very confusing and didn’t think I would ever learn how to use it without being stressed.

Outside of work, how do you like to recharge and relax? – Spending quiet time at home listening to smooth jazz and I like to spend time with my husband as we both work different shifts.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your colleagues might not know? – I love to decorate and plan events
